Sweet Potato Comfort Pie (SPCP) of Golden Valley invites people to gather virtually for three “tea circles” focused on healing. The tea circles will be held via Zoom on May 24, 6:30—8 p.m., on June 22, 6:30—8 p.m. and on June 24, 6:30—8 p.m. “This is the second anniversary of the murder of Mr. George Floyd, and now the horrific massacre in Buffalo, New York,” said founder Rose McGee. “We all need healing. These tea circles allow people to engage in sharing, listen, have a bit of fun, and just be together in community.” Each session features meditation guru Subba Vaidyanathan, who resides in Singapore. The healing tea circles series is made possible by a grant from the Minneapolis Foundation.
Tea Circle 1: “Breathe” — Tuesday, May 24, 2022, 6:30 to 8 p.m.: A virtual tea gathering in commemoration of the second anniversary of the murder of Mr. George Floyd. Featuring poetry performance, writing exercises and sharing. With special guest facilitator Anika Bowie; poet and rap artist Lewiee Blaze; guest tea master Raeisha Williams, owner of Heritage Tea Beverages; and DJ Brittany Wright. Wear a power cap! Tea Circle 2: “Uplift” — Wednesday, June 22, 2022, 6:30 to 8 p.m.: A virtual tea gathering in celebration of Juneteenth. This circle will feature the top three winners of the 2nd Annual SPCP Jubilee Bake-Off. The top three will share their inspiration for their sweet potato comfort pie creations, and the first-place winner will be announced! Special guest facilitator Keiona Cook, of Lovely’s Sewing.
